Trimetric TM-2030-RV Deep Cycle Battery Monitor System

NOTE: Requires either a 100 amp or 500 amp shunt.

The TM-2030-RV comes with its own enclosure designed to be surface mounted to a wall, so it does not need an additional mounting enclosure.

The TM 2030 is intended to help maintain battery systems for 12V to 48V deep cycle batteries, such as ones found in RVs or off grid homes, which are regularly charged and discharged. It measures the rate of energy going in or out of your batteries so you can check your charging systems and see how much energy each of your appliances use. This is a big help when you're trying to conserve energy. The Trimetric will help you keep track of how charged or discharged your batteries are. It will let you discover if your charging systems are charging to the proper voltage, which is important for maximizing your battery life. The monitor will also tell you the number of days since the main battery system was fully charged, so if it hasn't been charged recently you can perform extra charging if necessary to help maintain the capacity of your batteries. The TM-2030 also can measure the voltage only of a second battery set, such as the starting battery, or solar voltage input to a charge controller.

The main difference between this model and the older TM-2025-RV is that the TM-2030-RV is capable of working in tandem with the new Bogart Engineering SC-2030 PWM solar charge controller. When the two units are used together, it increases the performance of the charge controller and can adjust the output to a level that is better suited to your batteries current state of charge.

The TM-2030-RV is a great tool (a fuel gauge of sorts) to keep track of your batteries and power needs. It is especially effective when combined with the SC2030 charge controller. The finite control and the additional unique charge dimension, really makes this PWM setup very effective, often outperforming some of the lower quality MPPT charge controllers. It sure has more than exceeded my expectations! I have 960W system with two SC2030 charge controllers and a TM-2030-RV meter. My batteries get charged even when I'm in the shade or cloudy days and I have seen as high as 63amps (measured by a DC amp probe) in the summer time, with the panels flat mounted, and consistently get 58-59 amps under those same conditions, and with the charge controllers maxed out, they only get a little warm, they don't overheat. The interesting things is, my panels are only rated to put out 53amps with a PWM controller. Ten extra amps is pretty impressive for a PWM system! Also, another nice feature to this setup, with the two charge controllers, if one controller fails or a panel shorts out, I'm not a sitting duck, I still have 50% of power available to me. So, thanks to Bogart Engineering and Handy Bob's blog (handybobsolar.com), I have a highly effective system that works as well as, if not better than, the average MPPT setup, and I have redundancy to boot.
