The Magnum Energy MS4048-20B is a powerful pure sine wave Inverter/Charger, ideal for mobile, off grid, and standalone applications. The AC output of this unit is 120 Volts AC single phase, but two inverters can be stacked to produce a combined 8000W, 120/240VAC inverter. When connected to an AC source, the MS4048-20B can pass through 30 Amps per leg to power loads, while at the same time charging the batteries. In this mode, the unit is not inverting, and will not push power back to the grid. The 20B unit has two 20 Amp AC circuit breakers built in, allowing for branch circuits to be connected directly to the inverter’s output. This inverter will require a minimum of 150A overcurrent protection, and #1 AWG wire to the battery for 5ft runs, or 2/0 AWG for runs longer than 10ft.
One of the best features of this inverter is the power factor corrected (PFC), Proportional-Integral (PI) multi-stage battery charging. This type of charger is included on all MS series inverters and greatly increases battery charging efficiency from an AC power source. It optimizes the AC input waveform and allows the voltage and current to be adjusted independently, which maximizes the real AC power available. This means you will use 25% to 30% less current than a standard charger. If you're using a generator, this translates into decreased run time and less fuel consumption to get your batteries up to a full charge.
If you prefer to use fuses for the inverter, we offer the FB-1 fuse holder and the F-150T fuses. We recommend placing the fuse as close as possible to the battery bank positive terminal. A circuit breaker gives you the added benefit of acting as a disconnect switch if you ever need to turn off the battery bank connection to your inverter. The MidNite Solar MNEDC175 circuit breaker is the proper size for the MS4048. If you need an enclosure for the circuit breaker, we offer a few options for enclosures that include the 175A breaker.
